Days 4 – 10: Mekong River Cruise

Please refer to our Vietnam & Cambodia brochure

The mighty Mekong River is the twelfth longest river in the world and the sixth-longest in Asia. Commencing at the Tibetan Plateau, the river runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam before dispersing into the Mekong Delta and the South China Sea.

Our unique river cruise options will take you from Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam, via Phnom Phen, the capital of Cambodia, to the fascinating city of Siem Reap, the gateway to the ruins of Angkor. Along the way, there is so much to experience and explore.

To take you on this extraordinary journey, we have selected sister ships, The Jahan and Jayavarman. Both have fascinating stories to tell. Once onboard, the intensity of the outside world will fade, and you will find yourself immersed in the exotic world of the Lower Mekong.

Jayavarman – A Floating Art Gallery

Named after Cambodia’s most renowned monarch, King Jayavarman VII, Jayavarman resembles a floating art gallery with objects d’art exhibited all over the public decks. King Jayavarman VII created some of the most famous temples of the lost Angkorian civilisation and was known for his tranquillity and love for artistic creation.

Finished in an elegant French-colonial design with stylish Art-Deco accents, the ship’s rooms and public areas are warm and embracing. From your first step on board, the atmosphere invites you to feel at home.

The Jahan – The Most Romantic Ship on the Mekong

Sister ship to Jayavarman, The Jahan captivates and transports guests back in time with an atmosphere evoking the glory of former British-India. Named after the celebrated 16th-century Indian emperor and arts patron Shah Jahan, The Jahan showcases fine artworks and regal finishings sourced from India.

The designer vessel’s staterooms are spacious and have private balconies, and the sprawling Noble Suites offer unparalleled onboard living experiences. The atmospheric East India Club and Lounge resembles an old British-Indian Gentlemen’s Club, while the adjacent sun deck and Jacuzzi pool provide modern resort-like facilities.

Both ships feature luxury spa options onboard. So, after a busy day onshore, you have time to relax and indulge your senses. Morning Tai Chi classes is also available and is suitable for beginners as well as experts.

Next stop is Ta Prohm, easily the most atmospheric and a highlight for anyone visiting Angkor, a haven for any photography enthusiasts.  A temple where you will love to linger, swallowed by the jungle looks very much in the same state as when the French explorers stumbled upon it more than a century ago.

In front of the magnificent Angkor Wat is perfect for lunch or a break during your day trip to Temples, refresh you with fresh fruits juice and shakes, and savour some delicious Khmer, Asian or International dishes (own cost).

As you enter the main causeway of Angkor Wat and start the long walk to the main temple, feast your eyes on the sight of this imposing structure.  Discover its many galleries, libraries, pavilions, courtyards and ponds full of water, carved bas-reliefs that tell the ancient Hindu legends of Ramayana and victorious Khmer battles.   Climb to the holiest sanctuary at the summit of the temple, where you are rewarded with fantastic views across the entire complex and beyond.

At the end of your tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Please note that the temple tour itinerary is flexible and may be adjusted by your local guide after consultation with you.  Weather, festivals, your interests and energy levels all have a bearing on which temples to visit and in what order.
